Mountain Barter

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it cost anything?

No. Mountain Barter is free. No listing fees, no commissions.

What can I trade?

Almost anything you make, grow, or do: eggs, produce, firewood, handmade goods, carpentry, mechanic work, babysitting, lessons, tools. If it's legal and you'd trade it with a neighbor, it belongs here. (See prohibited items in our Terms.)

How do I know a trade is fair?

You two decide. Be specific about what each side is providing before you meet. "I'll trade a 2-ft carved sign for 4 dozen eggs over 2 months" beats "sign for eggs."

Is it safe?

Trade with real local people, check their completed-trade count, meet in public for first trades, and report anything sketchy. We remove bad actors.

What area does this cover?

Mariposa & Madera Counties — Mariposa, Oakhurst, Coarsegold, Ahwahnee, North Fork, Madera, and everywhere between. More regions coming if this takes off.

Do I have to use the website?

Nope — we also run a Facebook group where folks trade informally. The site just makes it easier to browse, search, and keep track.
