1. What Mountain Barter is

Mountain Barter is a free platform that helps neighbors in Mariposa and Madera Counties, California, find each other to barter goods, skills, and services. We are a bulletin board, not a party to any trade. We don't inspect items, guarantee outcomes, verify claims, or mediate disputes.

2. Your account

You must be 18 or older to use Mountain Barter. Use your real identity — fake profiles get removed. You're responsible for everything posted from your account.

3. Trades are between you and your neighbor

All trades are voluntary agreements between members. You are solely responsible for evaluating the other party, the goods or services exchanged, and any tax obligations that may arise from bartering (the IRS treats barter income as taxable — talk to a tax professional if you barter commercially).

4. Prohibited items and conduct

You may not list, offer, or request:

  • Weapons, including firearms and ammunition
  • Alcohol
  • Prescription drugs or controlled substances
  • Live animal sales that require permits or licenses
  • Stolen property, counterfeit goods, or anything illegal under California or federal law
  • Cash deals, loans, or anything that's a sale dressed up as a trade

No spam, scams, harassment, or commercial reselling. We enforce posting and messaging limits, and we remove listings and accounts that break these rules — at our sole discretion, without notice.

5. Content

You own what you post and grant us a license to display it on the platform. Don't post content you don't have rights to, or anything defamatory or obscene.

6. No warranties; limitation of liability

Mountain Barter is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from trades, meetups, listings, or use of the platform. Meet safely and use your judgment.

7. Changes

We may update these terms as the platform grows. Material changes will be noted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Continued use means you accept the updated terms.
